Events
[edit]July
[edit]The Dragon Bravo Fire was first reported on July 9, 2025, at around 5:05 pm MST.[1] The firefighters initially choose the "confine and contain" strategy, which allowed the fire to burn for more than a week, before taking more aggressive actions.[4]
On July 13, the historic Grand Canyon Lodge inside the park at the North Rim was destroyed due to the fire. Dozens of other structures on the North Rim have also been destroyed.[2][3] The fate of other historic buildings in the area, including those associated with the Grand Canyon Inn and Campground, and Grand Canyon North Rim Headquarters, was not immediately known.
Cause
[edit]The cause of the fire is believed to be due to lightning.[1][5]
Impact
[edit]Closures and evacuations
[edit]On July 13, the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park was closed for the remainder of the 2025 season. Mandatory evacuation orders were also issued for all North Rim residents.[1][6][7][8]
